Is Mark Foley really 'committed to protecting our children'?

Updated June 27, 2000

At markfoley.org, Mark Foley's campaign website, Foley claims he is "committed to protecting our children."

Evaluation: Foley has accepted $21,350 in donations from the National Rifle Association since 1993, while firearms have killed nearly 25,000 kids since Foley took office - more than any other industrialized nation.

In the last two election cycles, Foley has pocketed $17,000 in donations from the tobacco industry, the same industry that hooks over 3,000 kids on smoking every day, over one million a year (1/3 of whom will eventually die of smoking-related illnesses), and spends over $5 billion a year marketing its deadly products, much of it targeted at kids.

Is Mark Foley really "committed to protecting our children" or is he committed to the tobacco industry and gun lobby?
